I am fine with everything else related with home schooling, but I am concerned about making sure she takes the tests. I do not know how to go about it or if she has to take them. HELP!

  1. You don't need to take tests, honey. Just start homeschooling her. And give her your own tests.

  2. Ohio State Law Reads:

    Standardized Tests:

Ohio Admin. Code § 3301-34-04. Parents have three options. At the time of notification, the family must send:

    1. A child’s test scores. If a child is tested, the child must have a composite score at least at the 25th percentile on a nationally normed standardized achievement test administered by either (a) an Ohio certified teacher, or (b) the public school, or (c) “[a]nother person mutually agreed upon” by the parents and superintendent, or (d) a “person duly authorized by the publisher of the test.”

    2. Or a “written narrative indicating that a portfolio of samples of the child’s work has been reviewed and that the child’s academic progress for the year is in accordance with the child’s abilities.” (If a written narrative is prepared, it must be written by either: (a) a certified teacher, or (b) “other person mutually agreed upon.”)

    3. Or an alternative assessment mutually agreed upon by the parents and the superintendent.

  3. I would assume, if it's required for HS'ers in Ohio, that local/state HS'ing groups have standardized testing as a group.  In many states, HS'ed students can also take the tests at their local public school.

If you'd like to give her the tests yourself (if that is okay by the state regulations), you can use a few places.

    Seton Testing:

    http://www.setonhome.org/testing/

    BJUP Testing:

    http://www.bjupress.com/services/testing...

With BJUP you have to have a B.S. degree to give the ITBS.  If you are a certifited teacher, you can give the Stanford.

I can't recall the name of the other place I've seen mentioned.  I tested through BJUP for a few years and now DS takes the EXPLORE test each year through an academic talent search.
