  1. By all means, homeschool your children!  Don't listen to the negative stuff about "proper" schooling and "proper" socialization and you not being qualified to teach your own children!  Most public school teachers spend more time disciplining than teaching and send the kids home with their books to figure it out with their parents (or on their own) anyway.  When my kids were in public school, we were doing homework three and four hours a day.  Now we get a typical homeschool day DONE in four hours! Since you have never homeschooled before, just be sure and get a curriculum that does it all from planning the lessons, teaching tips, grading and record keeping.  (Like Switched on Schoolhouse or A Beka) FIND OUT WHAT YOUR STATE REQUIRES and then join a homeschool support group!  Other homeschoolers are the greatest source of encouragement, support and information about what works and what doesn't.  We do a teaching Co-op twice a year, meet at the park once a week for hang out time, have organized sports teams (basketball, volleyball, track and football), swimming parties, back to school parties, field trips, dances, prom and graduation ceremonies.  Socialization without the blatant sexuality and school violence - what a great deal!  Oh, and by the way, my kids are very social, happy, and they consistently score VERY HIGH on the yearly 'how good are you doing" standard tests.  I ENJOY my kids and have a great relationship with them both (11 & 13) and wouldn't trade these past three years for ANYTHING.

Bless you - I hope you make the right choice for you.  Email me anytime for a dose of homeschool encouragement!

  2. You can try www.aceministries.com  That is the curriculum I use for my kids.

There is online diagnostic testing so you can see where they need to start.  It's a great program and is very teacher/student friendly.

I have been using it for my three kids for 3 years now.

  3. Here is a link to the free homeschool programs. They are offered in many states. I would start there.http://takecontrolofyoureducation.blogsp...

If you homeschool through one of these programs, it's just like you transferred to a different public school. They take care of all the paperwork.

    Best of Luck!

  4. there are actually a few free online charter schools in IL. I would check that you. One is not free but more affordable than a private online charter.

Online charters will help you if they are available in your area.

  5. www.abeka.com

  6. If you are looking for free online public schools try K12.com and Connectionsacademy.com. Your local library can provide you with homeschooling books too if you want to homeschool themselves. Good luck to you. Take care.

  7. I think your kids will be alright in public school.

Its only fifth and third grade

If they were a little older i would worry

You should send them too school and do whatever you can too get your family out of this situation. Home schooling's going too take too much time and energy. You should really be working instead.
