We want to homeschool for the rest of the year because we have moved and she will be attending a new school. But she is shy and doesnt want to start a new school with only a month and a half left she wants to wait untill next fall. So we have tried the online classes but they wont let us enroll in the for the cuurent school year. Any online homeschooling classes that let you enroll in the middle of the schoolyear?

  1. You should just "traditionally" homeschool her until the rest of this year.  Connect with local HS'ers and see if anyone has some used material you could purchase, or borrow.

If you're just trying to round out her current grade level, then just get the core classes and work on those.  (Math, English/Language Arts, Science, History/Social Studies)

Most online schools will not let you enroll this late due to one reason.  By the time all the placement testing, paperwork, and materials shipment (including a computer), the school year will nearly be over.

You didn't say what grade your DD is.  That will change the answer quite a lot.  There are online middle and high schools with "rolling" start dates.  They are not public online school, though, they are private, so you'd have to pay.

You could use something like Time4Learning for the rest of the year:

    Or Cosmeo:

    Or Aleks:

Or, just simply, the public library.  Your area may have a HS'ing lending library also.

I recommend joining (it's free) the Homeschool Buyers Co-op, where you can get a lot of materials for a lot less money.

They have CyberEd, Thinkwelll, SpellDoctor, World & I, Get a Clue, Smart Draw, and other group buys, right now.

  2. Have you tried Switched On Schoolhouse? It's run by Alpha Omega Academy.  They usually will let you start in the middle of the year but you would have to start at the 1st quarter with them even if it is in the middle of the school year and complete the 180 days of school.  That's what I use with my daughter and we like it.

  3. The classes you are referring to are not homeschool classes, but they are "public school at home."  Because it is a "public school at home" curriculum, they probably feel that there is not enough time left in the school year for your daughter to benefit.

I would suggest homeschooling her for the remainder of the school year with the curriculum of your choice.  Start off with learning how to legally homeschool in your state/district.  The Home School Legal Defense (HSLDA) is a good source for this information as well as information on how to get started in homeschooling; the link is below:

Time4Learning is an online home education program for students in grades pre-K through 8th grade.  It is affordable, and the software that is used is standardized.  Following is the link:

I am familiar with Time4Learning at the 1st through 3rd grade levels and would highly recommend it.  My son, who is now in 2nd grade loves it, because it makes learning fun for him.

I hope the above is helpful.

  4. I know a school that you can enroll in now, however I really don't recommend it. I think it will probably put to much stress on your daughter to complete the year in the 5 weeks there are left in the school year.

Like others have suggested, books are probably your best bet at this point.

However, if you'd like to look into the online school here's the address:

    http://www.themorningstaracademy.org/

    it's sister school is:

    http://www.thejubileeacademy.org/

Again, I really don't recommend enrolling this late in the year.

  5. Since the school term is about over, I doubt you will find any online classes that will allow late enrollment.  A possibility would be to put your child on independent study, and allow her to finish her schooling at the current campus, except all at home.  Then, when the term is finished next month, you can then apply for home schooling credits.  It's probably the best way for her to finish her grade right now.  Best of luck to you.

  6. You have several choice here, but before you begin academic work, it's important to know that kids need, on average, one month of "deschooling" http://www.homefires.com/glossary/d.asp for every year they have been in school.  Therefore, your child (and you) might do very well by laying off the academics for the rest of the year, and detoxing from the school system.

After that, you have many, many, many choices besides online classes, which will tide you over until next year.  Check the link below for further information.

    Be well.

  7. We don't do the online home schooling. We just buy the materials and do it on our own. On line home schooling is too close to public schooling with all of their waiting and scheduling.

  8. It's highly doubtful, because there is about six weeks of school left, it would be totally pointless. Just tell her to suck it up and go to school, it will be good for her.
