I have Irish ancestry so I would really like to SEE Ireland. Yes, I want it to be romantic, but I want it to be an experience to remember!

  1. OMG, that would be so fantastic!  I went four years ago during the months of June and July, for three weeks total.  We flew into Shannon (and spent the first two nights at the Old Ground Hotel) and rented a car and drove from the southern most point to the northern most point, through the west coast and central part of the island, stopping along the way to see everything we could.  Lots of times we pulled off the side to see unexpected castles   or ruins.  We avoided Dublin and the east coast because it's more commercialized and because my travel companions had already been there.  We stayed in B & Bs along the way that we found searching online.  Each one was wonderful!  I loved all of Ireland but the northern part is amazingly beautiful!  We stayed in Galway (Petra House B*B), took a ferry to the Aran Islands and stayed two nights at the Man of Aran B&B.  We stayed in Salthill at the Carraig Beag B&B.  We stayed in Donegal at the Diamond Lodging. We stayed in Malin Head at the home of Fred and Ellen Hickock (I don't remember the name of their B&B).  On the way to Malin Head, we stopped in Slieve League and saw the tallest cliffs in Europe--you can hike up easily for quite a ways.  We stayed in Portrush at The Harbour Heights B&B.  (This is in Northern Ireland and beautiful!).    We saw the Giant's Causeway while we were in the area.  Unbelievable!!  Then we went to Carrick-a-Rede and walked the rope bridge.  AWESOME!!    We did and saw so many wonderful things.  My whole point is...if you have an option, don't spend all your time doing the usual tourist stuff.  Well, you MUST see the Cliffs of Mohr and the Burren, but try to spend time in the northern part too...have a blast!
