I have a sony x plod system (deck, amp, two 6x9s, two 12" subs), and am selling my car. I am removing all the stereo compnents and want to build the car stereo system directly into the wall of my house and also run a 32" plasma screen wall mounted along with all of this. Is it possible, i know it will look clean, but will the sound be there? Also how would go about powering all of this without using a car battery ??

  1. Marcus is a bit harsh - but correct.

There is more to home theater than an amp and woofers.

You need 5.1 decoding, level adjustment, etc to support the HDTV sound. The electronics from your car wont support this. You need a 5.1 AV Receiver.

You can take the woofers and put them in a cabinet to make a subwoofer. But you should buy a mono-amp designed to run from 120 vac. Try www.partsexpress.com for amps and enclosures.

  2. You will need some very heavy duty 12 volt power supplies especially since you will be powering two 12" subs.

Here is one that might fit the bill....

Depending on how loud you play it, you may need to buy more than one.

If you wonder how come it is so expensive, you need to realize you are trying to run car equipment in a home.  This is not what it is designed for.  It is designed for car use and is constrained by the 12 volt power in an automobile.  Equipment running at line voltage (120vac) is much easier to design and cheaper to manufacture.

  3. Stop being cheap and buy yourself a true hometheater. car systems are made for cars. 12v not 120v like your house is wired. it will not clean clean and it will sound like c**p
