I already have a ok/good hit but I want to jump higher to I can put more power on it. I'm the main hitting on my Club Team. I'm 5 feet 5 inch and 14 years old.

  1. um like you know practice up against a wall. jump up and down practice blocking basically and it got my jump much better and now my hit is more consistent.

  2. I used to do a great exercise involving stairs.  On the edge of any stair let one foot hang over the edge.  Only your toes and top part of foot should be touching.  (You may need to balance yourself with your hands on a wall.)  Let your heel dip all the way down and then back up as high as you can reach.  (on the tips of your toes)  Continue this up and down motion until the back of your calf burns.  Switch legs.  Do three sets on each leg, every other day.

  3. Here are three things that my team does to improve our leaping:

    1) We all stand up next to the net.  We jump up and touch the top of the net as fast as we can for 10 minutes straight.  But you could reduce it to 5 minutes though, because 10 is a little extreme!

    2) We built this little box that helps us jump higher (and this also works for basketball).  It is one foot high, and it it like 5 feet wide (but the width doesn't really matter).  You jump up onto it (both feet at the same time), and then you jump off.  Once you jump off, you squat down and try to jump up as high as you can.  You can repeat this process for as long as you want.  You can also increase the height of the box once it becomes way too easy for you, but just make sure that it doesn't get too high (because you could injure yourself if you don't make it all the way up or something).

    3) We do bleacher jumps... a lot!  In case you don't know what these are, they are just when you jump us and down off the bleachers for a certain period of time (we normally go 10 minutes).  Make sure you wear your knee-pads, because once you start to get tired, you may accidentally fall and hurt yourself.

*Good luck with jumping higher!  If you have anymore questions, feel free to e-mail me at karl_kool_14@yahoo.com

whenever you feel like it!  Hope I helped!  : - )

  4. It seems like you want to increase your vertical leap. The best way to do this is by jumping exercises. There is a ton of great plyometric training exercises on the net, just search for plyometric exercises on Google.

Please be advised, plyometric training can be dangerous if not done correctly. If you truly want to increase your vertical, get a trainer that is well versed in plyometrics. If you can't afford a trainer, take it easy at first and work out on your own.

The principle of Plyometric workouts is that constant explosion of your muscles can increase their strength. When you jump from the ground to a box for example, you must explode upward instead of merely jumping. These explosions are great to build your hip flexors and calf muscles which are paramount in increasing your vertical leap.

More advanced workouts can include weight belts and vests but do not go to far advanced until you are ready.

Whatever you do, realize that you will not increase your vertical leap past a point where you are genetically limited. What I mean is that if your genetics predispose you to have a maximum of a 17 inch vertical, no amount of training is going to give you a 40 inch vertical. But with training, you can reach your maximum potential.

This also won't happen overnight, you may not see results until after 6 months of 3 times a week training.

Most people want results now, once you realize that it only comes with hard work and patience, then you set yourself up for that work and eventually success. Anything worth having takes hard work, if it where easy, everyone would have tremendous verticals. Is that enough cliches for you? :)
