I want to be able to run a 6:00 minute mile just once right now. I just recovered from an injury and now I want to get my times back. My PR for a mile is 5:45. Since recovered from my injury I can only get a 7:20. To get my pace back I am doing intervals of 400s and 800s. I know I can keep up with a treadmill. So is it a good idea to do pace work on a treadmill because I run faster on treadmills than I do on regular surface. So if I ran a 5:30 mile on a treadmill do you think that translates that I can do the same pace on the roads?

  1. You need to do distance work to improve your cardiovascular conditioning. Then you can do intervals to help your stress levels.

Running on the treadmill is okay, but I prefer to run outside when possible.

If you can run faster on the treadmill I would guess it is because it forces you to run at a consistent pace.

If you can do 5:30 inside you should be able to do 5:30 outside.
