Of course we have paper recycling, but I'm about the only person who uses it, okay, more people than me uses it, but the majority of my class population doesn't. What are some ways I can influence or inspire the "Go Green" concept throughout my school?

Thanks for your input!

  1. I go around the roads here and pick up cans. One can get around 70cents  pound for them in this area it was only 35 cents a few years ago. One can of alumina can save about 1/3 of gas so in theory it would take 3 cans and you save about 12oz of gas this adds up in no time at all and the price of gas topping out as much a $4 a gal one would be helping the environment a great deal. On a more personnel side and I mean personnel, did you know that the sanitary products which are needed take a long time to break down in the land fill sort of like the diapers and styr foam plates.  One can not stop those at this time however, the cans can be turned in and the money used for the class trip or help pay for graduation things in the next few years. Good luck

  2. make it fun and trendy (or whatever you young people say nowadays..)

and yes, easy is very important.

  3. Give a class on how one could wipe their back side with as little paper as possible.   Graphic demo's with peanut butter and dummies could be used along with a reward for a great catch phrase and alternative ways of wiping.

  4. Make it a policy with your principal

  5. Try taking them to a land fill to show how gross they are. Make it a school rule. Show pictures of wildlife and nature being littered and killed or hurt by the garbage,

  6. schools I have worked at have class competitions for which class recycles the most paper and keeps their garbage empty longer by using the recycling bin and both sides of their paper..do something amazing that they can see like have a person from a recycling coalition come in wearing recycled sweaters knit from recycled milk jugs etc...they nail it home when the kdis see products they think are cool made out of recycled items - we had someone come from public works that awarded kids with free recycled items and gave them booklets to read ..also, creative idea - recycling club that collects milk and recyclable containers at lunch times and students go around table tot able with composting pails for apple cores etc...all student run even at the elementary level....the compost is then used on the grounds in the gardens by the kids in science

  7. I have found that the key to a successful recycling program is convenience. When our school began seriously recycling about 5 years ago, we offered a contest. The class with the most pounds of recyclable materials in a given amount of time was given a popcorn party. That introduced the concept. We then distributed recycle bins to each classroom and sent science club member around twice weekly to empty the tubs into larger containers. We have the local recycling service come about once per week to pic up our full cans. We also have a trailer behind the school for cardboard. Hope this helps.

  8. Most high schoolers only think about getting dates and that stuff so try to relate to it. say to the guys that alot of girls dig guys who care about the environment. also tell everyone that picking up trash around your comunity is great excercie and can help you loose weight or get hot abs. i am in 8th grade and i also want to help make my comunity greener. im glad to see atleast some people other than me care.

  9. I think you should try to influence them to. It may be hard, especially if your crush is in your class. ;] . Or, just tell them the things taht may happen if we don't help. If they still don't understand why, I would start by picking up their trash, and collect them to see how much trash they don't pick up. Then tell your teacher or whoeever you know that cares and ask them to do something about it
