  1. There is.  It is an index fund called TIP.   You might also consider buying H bonds, which are also indexed and tax deferred.  TIP is not tax deferred.  You can buy H bonds at your bank or through treasury direct.  You do need to be aware that currently the interest rate is rather low.

    no sense in paying a mutual fund manger for sitting on his a$s.
