I want to invest in some stocks but dont know where to start can anyone help??

i am 19 and i would like to start investesting in stocks but i dont know anything about stocks and dont have a clue where to start can anyone give me some good info? THANKS

For cheap stock trades, you can go through your bank and/or use sharebuilder/etrade/etc...

But you should have money set aside for retirement before trading individual stocks, vanguard/fidelity have good indexes and etfs that you can pick from to index a simple portfolio.

Google some information for basic understandings and/or take a class.  Basics arne't really difficult.  Really depends what kind of investing you want to do.

To get started with investing in the stock market, you will need to first acquire the required knowledge. This can be done through books or online tutorials. My favorite website is Investopedia ( http://www.investopedia.com/ ).

Next, you will need a stock broker to do your trading with. Full-service brokers are expensive so I prefer an discount online broker.  I currently use Firstrade ( http://www.firstrade.com ) and I would definitely recommend them. Their commission rates are cheaper than big name brokers such as Etrade, Ameritrade, Schwab, and Scottrade. I would also not recommend using Zecco because they only give free trades if you deposit $2,000 or more. Plus, unlike Firstrade's, their website is not beginner friendly at all.

Yahoo.com/finance is a good source of information. I would encourage you to do your homework before investing any of your money on a stock and do not invest any amount you cannot afford to lose...

I´ve been investing for more than 20 years and trading for almost 14, and I can tell you that if you want to make BIG and FAST profits, I recommend you trading rather than investing, trading can help you to go from rags to rich.

If you are investing, you must have already achieved some degree of financial success, long term stock investing and FOREX can help you to diversify your money and become much richer than you are today.

My experiences as a Nasdaq Market Maker, Head trader of several brokerage firms, and currently as a professional trader and private hedge fund manager, I can suggest you that:

We trade because we want quick, short term profits on a consistent basis. We want to cash flow the market. Milk it like a cow.

Make consistent, small, short term gains rather than trying to hit a home run on every trade. Don't ever forget that.

Be very careful. I would suggest starting with mutual funds as a bit of protection. You might consider buying an S& P 500 index fund whilst prices are so low. Treat stocks like soap powder, buy them whilst they are cheap and avoid buying whilst they are expensive. History suggests they are pretty cheap now.

Use an online brokerage firm that has good beginner qualitys {like tutorials or easy to understand set up}, i use zecco, better then schwabb, etrade, etc. they are the only ones with free stock trades and no minumums..
