At my high school, cheer is really competitive. I really want to try out in October, it seems like a lot of fun. The thing is, I'm not in the best shape right now, and I know you have to do lots of jumps and moves and things. I partly want to join to get into better shape but I know that I'll never make the team if I'm not initially in alright shape. Any tips? What should I start doing?

  1. run daily, and work your abs and arms.  When you're practicing you're jumps make sure they're nice and clean (not sloppy).

Your motions also have to be tight. try looking up cheerleading motions and how to do them properly.

If you don't have any tumbling, I suggest you take tumbling lessons because tumbling is a big part of competition cheerleading.

Remember that cheerleading is a big commitment and it may mean you'll have less time to spend with your friends, and even less time to study. So make sure you're grades are decent as well.

I wish you the best of luck!
