  1. If I were you I would join the Navy so you can become a corpman, which could get you assigned with the Marines.  You can also get the training for becoming a PT specialist.  You really need to think about this.  The Marines use the Navy for medical.

  2. You will know your ready, when you can say "I am proud to serve" admist a crowd of nay sayers denouncing your wanting to join.

Instead of scaring you to death. I'll give you some pointers on confirming your decision to join.....

Before joining, make a list of your dreams and ambitions. Compare it to what the Marines offers, and the current state of your branch. Compare your personality, to the everyday lifestyle that particular branch lives. Are you hardcore? Are you laid back? Do you like water? Love camping atmosphere?  Are you comfortable with the length of deployments? Would you rather serve enlisted personell or as officer? Simple questions, that will further help you decide which, what, when, and why. Go on Youtbe and view some Marine corp life videos, to get a little glimpse into the life. Ask vets who served, and also Navy vets can help you out too since Marines is a component of Navy. Especially the combat medics. With that said, I believe you can do what ever you put your mind to. We are here to support you.

important: Reserves means you serve once a month, 2 weeks in the summer. Once you take the first oath, your in. That means you can start drills with your unit before boot camp, and recieve pay for it. Start running now!!!

Take your time, think about it, and give your local Marine recruiter a call sometime....

  3. The reserves are one weekend a month and 2 weeks in the summer. If you have the desire to be a Marine, then go for it. Not everyone can do it, so dig deep and decide what you really want out of life. The time flies by, so don't worry about the commitment, you can be a civilian again before you know it. Being a PT will always be there and you may remember some things about that job when you are older. However, being a Marine will remember forever. You will be 60 years old and able to rattle off your drill instructors names like it was yesterday. You want it....GO FOR IT!

  4. Do a tour with the USMC and then go to college or join the USMC reserve and go to college.

The USMC Reserve is part time - you still attend boot camp and your MOS school but then you serve one weekend a month and two weeks per year unless your unit gets deployed.

  5. military? not for everyone. consider your options. recruiters lie a lot.

  6. join the reserve that is what i am gunna do

  7. Becarefull what you wish for you just might get it! :) Do your research and make sure this is what you want The Marine Corps isnt something you should do on a fling or becuase you have a wild hair up ur butt.It is a hard, hard lifestyle and only the few and proud can step up and meet this challenge. You sign your name on that dotted line you dont belong to you anymore you belong to the Corps so remember that. But if you feel you have what it takes to honor this COMMITMENT then by all means.

  8. if you want it, go for it

  9. The military is not for everyone. I was in the Navy for two years, I did not make it to four years, I would have lost my mind. The marines are worse in the way they treat people especially. If you want to join because of school, check out grants and scholarships. Also, jobs (that is not the military) that offer tuition reimb or an apprentiship program. The military is a 24/7 commitment, everything else including going to school and family, even if you have kids, comes last. The military is not like what you see on tv. Check out youtube.com, type in stuff like marine corp and check out the videos.

You can't just quit the military iif you don't like it, there is not such thing as calling in sick from work or missing a day. I joined for the GI bill and never saw a cent of it because I got out of the military early. How did I get out if there is not such thing as quitting the military? I had to cut my wrist. They labeled me as unstable and I was out, but I do not have an honorable discharge, that is another problem. Do not join the military just because (that's why I did, mainly for school and travel). Really consider your options.
