Right now i have 50/50 custody. (physical and legal) I want to join the marines, but i dont want to give up my son. If she gets custody while im gone, will i be able to get custody back later? is the military a benefit or a downfall in a custody case?

  1. Talk to your attorney.

  2. you cannot enlist as single parent.  you must give up all custody for the entire first term of enlistment.

whether you can get it back depends on the judge.

  3. Why gamble with your sons future..??

Your the dad now act like it..Enlisting is never a plus for kids who are part of a separated relationship..

  4. I'm no lawyer but I do have common sense.  You would still have 50/50 custody even while you are gone.  And depending on your relationship with the mom it could be beneficial cause would be paid for having a dependent and he could receive medical benefits.  But if you are sent out of state away from your kid you will definitely have  a harder time with being a good father to your kid so the decision for you to make is... is being a good father more important or joining the military.  You could be both and just join the USMC reserves and you'd in town and still be able to be involved in your kids life.
