I want to kayak how do I start?

What do i need to buy and what do i look for in a kayak, im looking to just tour and explore no white water rapids riding, i just need a single seater, any help will be appreciated thanks.

You can try to learn by yourself but you will not get far. Find a kayak club or school. Take some lessons.  Don't buy anything until you know what you need for your kind of kayaking. You need: kayak, transport equipment, paddle and spare, PFD, helmet, flotation and special clothing. You may need a boat license. Search, kayak schools.

hi im only 14 but i sorta kayak with my family.. i was with them when we bought the kayaks

first go to a store that sells equipment and kayaks, such as d**k's or Gander Mountain.

2. ask someone for help. tell them you are new

3. make sure they know you are a beginner, or else they may give you a boat you cant control.

4. dont get anything fancy. you don't need it.

5.  you will need besides the boat :

paddle. (its one)

honestly i think thats all you NEED. but most ppl also purchase:

cover that has a hole for you. (incase of rain)

water shoes or durable shoes.

clothes you dont care about

  (you actually WILL get wet...when the paddle goes up..it drips)

and a waterproof bag (that closes all the way)

..but some kayaks have their own compartments.

you prolly dont NEED a helmet..i dont use one..cuz its only in a lake lol. no tidal waves or anything...but if you want to be very safe...get one.

lakes are fun, but rivers (NO MOVING WATER LOL) are funner when u have sum experience,....cuz you can turn
