  2. River maps are put out by the US Army Corps of Engineers so start hunting there.

    They also put out 'guides" for each section of river, telling what each section is like and also regulations for small  boats so they wont get into trouble.

    Landfall Navigation on line has a section called sailing guides with a few books on the Big River....mostly aimed at 30-50 foot power boast its also good info for a kayak.

  3. You can use Google Maps and make your own Mississippi River Atlas.  Caution:  Some parts of the Mississippi River have extremely strong currents.  You could easily drown in one of these currents.  Ask the locals about the safety of kayaking their section of the river.
