The Fulham boss has reiterated his desire to keep Clint Dempsey at Craven Cottage, despite heavy interest from Liverpool.
As one of the brightest stars in London, the American International has long been linked with a switch to a European side this summer. The player himself revealed that he was eyeing continental football after years of struggling to make his name in London.
Scoring freely last time out, the midfielder c*m forward netted a hugely impressive tally of 23 goals and has captured the imagination of Brendan Rodgers at Anfield, while Arsene Wenger has also been making inquiries from the Emirates.
Liverpool, though, are huge favourites to land the attacker after publicly revealing their desire to acquire his services before the transfer window is out.
Furthermore, Fulham have been discontent with the entire saga and omitted Dempsey from their match day squad against Norwich City.
While on the outside a move to Merseyside beckons, Martin Jol has come out and revealed his desire to keep the player firmly rooted at the helm, as he can still play an important part in the upcoming campaign.
Speaking to reporters, the Dutch coach said that Dempsey had his head turned by the allure of playing in the UEFA Europa League, but he still hoped that the American would stay put at the club.
“Mentally Clint wants to move, he doesn’t want to stay here. His head was turned and that was the problem. It’s a problem and a situation you don’t want. It’s not something you can talk to a player about every day because he doesn’t want to. I don’t know
if he’ll remain a Fulham player. I’d love to keep him, but I’m not sure.”
“Hopefully if he stays, then in the next couple of weeks he will change his thoughts about us. With me there’s no problem and I don’t think there’s a problem within the team over him,” said the trainer.
Fulham have decided to launch a campaign against http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809, accusing the Reds of tapping up their prized asset without their prior permission. The F.A have been dishing out hefty punishments in the last couple of days and they could slap a transfer embargo
on the Merseysiders if they are found guilty.
