if i buy a home theatre system will i be able to hook it up to my sony CD player in my house?

A home theater system should be able to play CDs to begin with.  If it has audio inputs, you should be able to connect it to your CD player.

of course  you can, you can also plug in your Ipod, or your computer but, you have to get adapters that fit.
