  1. Abolished slavery

  2. it is too bad that Lincoln is known more for slavery and getting killed than unifying a nation.

Lincoln and others at the time had slaves. That's right he and others had slaves.

When the North and the South where fighting the south was motivated to win and didn't want a large federal government . They did not trust large government and wanted a Confederacy. This means all the states would remain independent. They where not fighting to keep slaves and the north fighting to release them. that was not really even an issue.

Lincoln allowed slaves to fight and in return be freed because the North would have lost the war due to lack of interest. Do some real study of the civil war and you will find it had little (almost nothing) to do with slavery.

  3. Abraham Lincoln did not start or cause a revolution, he used great force to stop and defeat a populist revolution against the U.S. government.

The U.S. Civil War, or the War of Northern Aggression, was never caused by slavery.  This issue was an important propaganda point in the North and an economic point in the South.

In President Lincoln's written response to Horace Greeley's editorial, after having already discussed a draft of the Emancipation Proclamation with his cabinet, Lincoln said, "If I could save the Union without freeing any slave I would do it, and if I could save it by freeing all the slaves I would do it; and if I could save it by freeing some and leaving others alone I would also do that..."

Lincoln added, "I have here stated my purpose according to my view of official duty; and I intend no modification of my oft-expressed personal wish that all men everywhere could be free."

The important goal of the Lincoln administration was to save the union, not to eradicate slavery.  But in the end, the North obtained both goals and had political and economic power over the South for generations.

    Hope this answer helps you.

  4. Abraham Lincoln was the President before and during the Civil  War.  The war was fought because some states in the south decided that they wanted to be free of the restrictions the federal government was putting on them.  One of these restrictions was that Africans could not be imported any more.  This made slaves extremely valuable and it made southerners mad because of the increased costs of buying and owning slaves. (by the way Lincoln himself never owned any slaves)  Many people in the north had never owned any slaves and had never supported slavery.  During the war many slaves worked hard to help the north win. Towards the end of the war Lincoln issued the 19th proclamation.  In this he proclaimed all slaves free and an end to slavery.  He was an excellent orator and gave many good speeches during his Presidency among these was the Gettysburg Address.  In this speech he said the immortal words "of the people, by the people and for the people".  Words I would love to see more modern administrations remember.
