  1. The phone companies are suppose to offer "naked DSL" but you really have to work to get it. Contact your local phone or cable tv provider and see what they offer.

But! Be prepare for slow service.

  2. You don't HAVE to but the company will charge you more if you don't.

  3. no.........you don't!! You can get a dry (naked) DSL line...with AT&T or Verizon...and some others, depending as to were you live!!

AT&T has a special for all new cusomer for 10 dollars a month....check there website...it's a little hard to find

  4. trick question.....

YES you need to have a phone line to get DSL, as it is a service that is provided over telephone wires to get to your home....

but perhaps you meant to ask, if you need to have phone service, or voice service to get DSL, where in that case the answer would be no, you can get dry or naked DSL, although it will cost more then DSL that is bundled with voice service... you may find that it may be cheaper to get the lowest possible phone service bundled with your DSL then to just get the DSL service on its own, even if you never use the phone, or use it only for incoming calls...

  5. at&t does offer "dry loop dsl" (w/o a phone line) in SOME states.... ((not for $10/mo. that was a merger agreement between at&t & bellsouth and is only available for customers with a phone line, when ordered over the internet at att.com/internet, and with a 1-yr contract))

i would suggest calling to see if the dry loop is available in your area, and the rates are also different for different states. call 1877uaskatt or visit att.com for more info. if you decide to go with att use referral code jr0583   good luck!
