I am looking to book a Caribbean trip in October but still undecided if i should even bother. I have heard from people about hurricane season in the Caribbean as well as those who have gone during hurricane season and the their trip was fine. So, I need to know who has gone during the fall.

Thanks

  1. I usually travel to the Caribbean during the end of summer into fall...In October I was in Cuba and never had any problem. As Stella said, you are usually given fair warning for hurricanes and their direction...and tour companies have been known to also adjust people's trips (especially if you have trip insurance).

Most of the time it's not an issue...for me in Cuba, I've never encountered hurricanes and have always done in the midst of hurricane season.

  2. I went to both Nassau and Freeport in November (right after Thanksgiving) a few years ago and it was absolutely amazing.

  3. Trinidad in particular has been blessed over the years to not fall victim to any major hurricanes. While all over the Caribbean hurricanes/storms are a reality, Trinidad and to some extent Barbados are pretty "safe". In Trinidad, when there's a storm brewing there are lots of "hurricane parties".

  4. I am going to usvi in 2 weeks and booked a trip thru expeedia. If you decide it is too risky and weather is too bad.Buy the insurance and WAIVER. you will be safer on getting most if not all the money back

go to swazzletravel.com if u need any gps or software, maps,or guides

  5. Don't go if it's hurricane season!

  6. I have traveled to the Caribbean and Florida in October and both times tropical storms were around. The one that hit Florida stalled in Mexico and we were able to get out with out and problems. The other one we were going to Dominican Republic and we had to change our destination.

My advice to you is plan your trip BUT take out travel insurance that covers weather. We had insurance both times and it pays to have a back up plan. The airlines gave us a two week window to change our flights (Dominican Republic trip) and the hotel was covered under the insurance. We just went to Mexico and the weather was beautiful.

During hurricane season you need to be a bit flexible. The weather people give plenty of warning that a hurricane is approaching. It doesn't come out of no where.

A good site to check weather is wunderground.com

Plan your trip, the weather is usually very nice in October.

    Good Luck)

  7. I went in September 3 years ago and got caught up in a hurricaine.  They can come up awfully quickly.  There was no advance warning before I traveled to the islands.  I suggest you wait until December to go.
