I know that both of them are polarities, I know how to set it up, but what I really don't understand is how to plug them into, say, an MP3 player or other 2.5mm jack. I have a black and red set of wires, just let me know what I have to buy/create in order to make my DIY home theater system...

  1. You DON'T want to hook up the speaker wires DIRECTLY into a 2.5 mm jack to drive your MP3 Player !!

You'll SMOKE that MP3 player in 2 seconds flat !

    TOO MUCH POWER !

Now, this is what you want to find.....

Audio outputs that use the RCA connectors on your stereo system....

Something like the TAPE OUT jacks can easily be converted from an RCA connector for the TAPE OUT connector to a 2.5 mm connector for your MP3.....

After all, your MP3 player is nothing more than a recording device anyways.....

So.....Go to Radio Shack, they sell an RCA to 2.5 mm adaptor cable.....

All you need to do is VERIFY you have Record or Tape outputs or an Audio output on your stereo unit......
