I want to know how to blend a fade haircut?

I just got done doing a fade for my style and I didn't like the results It came out so nice but how do blend the line one line looks rather messy and the other one blends in how do I blend the other side it seems bulky mind you I'm not a barber I'm a 16 year old kid but I can cut my own hair its just this one minor glitch that got me I used a #1 for the sides and a #3 for the top

Go around the fade line with a #2. I do my husband and sons hair all the time and it comes out great. It took me a while to perfect the fade, but it can be done. Good luck!
