I want to know if my new computer will get viruses from my old computer if I use a transfer cable?

My old computer has viruses on it and I just bought a new laptop and I want to move some of the files from my old computer onto my new computer and during the transfer will viruses get onto my new computer

The only way to get a virus is to run an executable file. That is to say that if a program contains a virus, the only way for your computer to "get" it is for you to deliberately run it. This means that certain files, by their nature, can't have viruses--an image file, for example. Make sure you can see the extensions for all file types so you can't be tricked into running an exe disguised as an mp3.

Download a virus scan program like AVG ot Antivir and run it before you transfer your data.But do that in the safe mode-it's better.
