  1. There are exeptions to the rule here..if the road you are going to fence across denies a neighboring house access to thier property..and there are no other means to thier house..you cannot..this is called an easement..I have seen alot of people buy land and even though they own a particular  part of the land with a road..but neighbors need it to get home..there will be a "easement clause" in your deed saying you cannot

  2. No, that is not only illegal, but highly dangerous. i saw a man killed once because someone did that.

  3. that is a very bizarre question.

    Private road?  Yes

    Public road?  No

  4. CAN someone? Well, It really depends on the talents of the individual, but it certainly can physically be accomplished...whether or not it's legal or a good idea is a completely different discussion.

  5. Are you talking about a road that is on private property? If so I think they can.  Not on a public road though....

  6. If you mean YOUR private road, leading to YOUR property or house or garage – YES! It is commonly done. People use fences and gates all the time to keep out unwanted “guests” from THEIR property.

But no individual can decide they want to keep others off of public land (except the government – they can do anything they want) and put up a fence or gate across a road – if they do, the police should be called.

If you are in doubt, call your local department of transportation and if they can’t answer your question as it pertains to your jurisdiction – I’ve no doubt, they will direct you to a person, department or division of local government who can help answer your question as it applies to you.
