  1. U of Phoenix is accredited, but it's not considered good. In fact, some employers dislike it so much that they refuse to hire its graduates.

You'll have more of a boost to your career, and more career possibilities, if you instead to go a reputable university that offers degrees online. So avoid any uni that's famous for being for profit or online. Instead, focus on schools that have a solid rep for their brick and mortar campus, but which also offer online degrees. So check to see if the following schools offer the degree you want online: UMass Amherst, Northeastern, Worcester Polytechnic, U Maryland, Penn State, Boston University, U Florida, U Nebraska, Iowa State, Ball State, Southern New Hampshire University, and also check your own state's public universities, as a lot of those offer online degrees now.

  2. The University of Phoenix is regionally accredited by the north central association of schools and colleges.  I earned my Bachelors degree from UOP in 2004 and am currently enrolled in their MBA program.  Finishing my degree at UOP was one of the best decisions I have ever made.  I have a very good job and it is due to my degree.  I have never had a negative reaction from an employer or potential employer in regard to my UOP degree.

  3. Read the reports on the better business bureau, its not good and alot of other sites like that one. I signed up with UoP and have now changed my mind. I'm hoping they dont s***w me over, Im trying to go to community college and forget I ever signed up withUoP.

  4. It is accredited by several bodies.

Whether it is considered god or not depends on the individual field of study. I have never had a problem getting a job with any of my nursing degrees: Associates from a private college, Bachelor's from a state university, and Master's from an online university (UOP).

Call professional organizations and/or governing bodies for your profession in the state you will be working in as well as talking to recruiters/employers before you register. Do they require you to attend a certain type of school? Does you school need to be accredited? By any specific bodies? Use this information when you are looking at any school, not just UOP.

I enjoyed UOP more than the traditional school I got my AA and BS from. My masters program consisted of discussions, papers, and projects. For me, the benefit of being able to do school work on my own schedule outweighed the cons of the high cost.

Within two months of graduating I had two new job offers (one from a private college and one from the university hospital). I was even on a phone interview in less than an hour of commencement, I was still in my regalia even.

I took the job teaching nursing at the private college. That same semester they hired another faculty member who was completing her Masters at UOP. I am now back at the university hospital, and another nurse is completing her Masters at UOP.

  5. It is accredited, but very expensive. Also on-line classes are not for everyone. I urge you to do your homework on this one. Once you sign up its hard as heck to get out with your shirt on...
