My child is in the 4th grade and has dylixia and ADHD. She started the year behind and is quicly falling behind. I think she would benifit from the one on one. However I am a single parent and can't stay home with her.

  1. Perhaps a charter school or a co-op might be a better option for you.  These are typically way less expensive than private school, but more geared to helping the kids and keeping classes small.

Most States require the parent be certified in some way and do the "homeschooling" themselves.

Check out the laws for your State.

  2. Yes, we do that and we are part of a group which does this.  Many of the parents are actually single mothers.  They manage by sharing the childcare with other families and working from home.  Both of us work from home.  You can't necessarily expect to be rich and do this, but it can be done.  If you want to know more, email me.

  3. try video lessons.

or a homeschool co op.  co ops are fun and interactive because you're with other kids, but you still get the one on one.  That's what I did part of the time in 4th and 5th grade.  but for the rest of the time, work with her at home.  like after work.  you can do math or something while dinner is cooking or while you eat.  my mom used to do that with me.

  4. When your home, work with her using her school books, teacher suggested at home lesson plans for her, enrichment books found at walmart and target, and see if the school will give her extra help during regular school hours.

  5. Start her on fish oil tablets, as regular doses can help with the ADHD and the dyslexia. Read "New Vital Oils" by Liz Earle for more info.

You couldn't afford to pay someone to be a private tutor for your child, but you can get join homeschooling networks and get support to school her yourself. Other single mums do it, so find a discussion board and ask them how they manage. You don't have to school her during school hours. You can do it after work, on weekends, during your holidays. Do your parents babysit? There's no reason why Nanna can't work with her on whatever topics she feels comfortable teaching or working with your daughter on. I've heard of grandparents doing the homeschooling, but you'll have to find out if they are willing, and if it's legal where you live.
