  1. Please take her emotions into account.  Don't let your desire for contact cause her hardship.

  2. then go to the school ask for a copy of their yearbooks ( they keep a copy on file ) of ask if you can order one, since you know her name you'll be able to find her easy that way!! don't mention adoption....

don't listen to these people above you either, making contact is legal once she is 18 and the only way you'll ever know how she feels is if you try!! and for adoptees, being found and known that you were wanted and loved is alot greater than having to be the searcher!! GO FOR IT!

state registries are a joke!! They cost too much money, they are unorganized and they make BOTH parties pay!! What if she can't afford the $500 fee for the next 5 years but wants to be found? You don't need a CI to go inbetween the two of you either. Adoption isn't the witness protection program, its adoption, and you have every right to pursue a reunion until you've been asked to stop BY HER.

  3. Please be careful about proceeding with this.  Not all children want to be "found".  It would tear some children up.

You can go through the Adoption Registry for the state she was born in.  If she is wanting to "find" some of her birth family, she will register, you can register, and they can put you in contact with each other.

    Good luck.

  4. joslin is right. i found my birthmother through the adoption registry. you have to remember, your sister made a decision and it was a lifelong one. i am all for searching for birthfamilies, but you have to make sure the adoptee wants to be found. register and wait. im sorry that advice probably isnt what you want to hear, but i honestly think that is for the best.

i went to the courthouse to the birth/death/marriage lic dept. i had to fill out a bunch of forms, bring any info you have. dates, papers, anything. they will enter you into the computer and if she registers you will be matched up. make sure you update everything like change of address or last names. my birthmother moved and it was one of the things she forgot to update, so it took us longer to find each other.

i wish i could tell you all adoptees are longing to find their birthfamilies and all will be rosey and grand, but the truth is sometimes its just not that way. prepare yourself for the worst and hope for the best.

good luck, i hope it turns out a positive thing for all involved

  5. Im not sure about the free part but I know you can call the school where you know she is going to be and ask if you can buy one of there year books.  Most schools will also have a copy of there books in there library.

  6. Why don't you go to the schools website.  Their should be links on there to order a yearbook.  It may not be free, but worth it.

Also, go to classmates.com or myspace.  Most young kids are on myspace and later may be on classmates.com of facebook.

I wish you luck and God Bless!
