  1. "Some teachers feel that its a method that's become redundant in today's context."

The starting point for most Montessori pre-schoolers is in the Practical Life area of the environment, where the children develop Organization, Concentration, Coordination and Independance I don't believe this would be considered 'redundant' in today's context. Children in a true Montessori school( and I use this term because there are some imposters out there) do learn to be quite independant learners because of this.

Also, in the other areas of the classroom, Math for example, concepts are first introduced in the most concrete form possible then progress to the abstract only when the child is able to abstract themselves. What child is not going to benefit from seeing and feeling the difference between a single bead (one unit) and a thousand beads wired together to form a cube (one thousand) as opposed to seeing numbers written on a page and told that 1000 is bigger than 1?

Also, 'the follow the child' approach of Montessori insures that children won't miss any important part of their education because they just didn't catch on one day and the teacher went on because they had to move on. In Montessori, a child wouldn't be moved on to the next materials until they are ready, doesn't matter what the rest of the class is doing.

There may be a few choice materials that were in the original 'Casa de Bambini' Maria Montessori's first 'classroom' that could be considered outdated, but as a whole The Method is still very relevant in today's world.

  2. What Montessori does best is teach independence.  It blows the mind to watch three-year-olds cleaning their own spills and rinsing their own dishes (yes, you do clean and wash after them).  The kids also clear up one activity before they are allowed to start another.

  3. i m not a Montessori directoress myself but have tried montessori exercises & material they usualy help in clearing the concepts of the student & the material is good to devlop kids' handeling & their concentration even its interesting for them too.its impliment can be bit tough in the begining as u all r not used to of it but it i s defintely helpful & useful for kids.but u must have a proper montessori directoress in yor skool b4 starting this system so she can guide u ppl for material using & its purpose :)

  4. I can't explain it very well so I won't try, but it is an excellant way to teach !

  5. First, research what it is and learn what Maria Montessori had in mind. Then, get permission to observe some schools that already exist. You will then be able to determine if that teaching style suits you. If the philosophies are apllied, it can be a good thing. Some schools use the title "Montessori" so it sounds above-all and official, but isn't always the case. Ironically, most behaviorists weren't too great with their own children, so be careful of what style/type you get into.

  6. Some of the Montessori materials are wonderful, and the program encourages Independence. On the other hand, it discourages cooperation. Kids spend a lot of time working alone. It also has no real creative component, either in art or play. Fantasy is discouraged and making believe is one of the best ways kids learn. Montessori did her work with slum kids who were developmentally delayed. I always think it is funny when snooty types think it is such an intellectual thing to do when they sign their kid up..

  7. Children can take care of themselves independently, expensive education though but worth it I've worked in montessori schools

  8. I have heard wonderful things about the Montessori method.  I haven't heard of any bad things about it.  But from what I heard, the children there "help one another".  That was one of the things that got me so interested in her method.  Maria Montessori taught children to learn to live together.  It is great that children at that age are learning how to live together.  Most adults now don't know how.

  9. i put my children in one this year and they both are in preschool 4 yr old and 3 yr old . and I love it. My son has ADHD and it works for him so perfect.  It teaches them at their level no matter what level that is. lets them choose whats right for them. it is so wonderful atleast for my kids.
