  1. I researched both cable and satellite when we moved recently and here is what I found:

Cable offers low introductory rates to get you to sign up then the rates soar (ours would have doubled).  Their HD selection is very limited.  They do have the availability to offer telephone, television and internet.  We had cable at our old home and when the cable went out we lost the phone and internet too.  It would drove us crazy.  With cable you also pay to have an installer do anything.

At our new home, we went with satellite and are much happier.  Direct and Dish are the main players in the satellite market.  Direct is very sports oriented and offers sports packages.  These are expensive in my opinion.  Dish offers dual tuner receivers which saves us some money.  You can have one receiver controlling two televisions.  We were able to save $10 a month by getting two dual receivers instead of four individual receivers.  The picture quality is great with both companies.   The only complaint that you hear about satellite is that they go out easily.  We haven't had any problems with ours in offer a year.  If you go with satellite, call a local retailer.  They will give you better service than a national company can ever give.  I actually hit my dish with a lawnmower last summer and the retailer was there within an hour to fix it.  My wife and I were stunned.

Also if you go with Dish check out their model 722.  That thing is amazing.  It's very easy to use and it has a beautiful picture.  My friends are all jealous of it....
