If you're a gamer go to www.xfire.com it's an instant messenger for gamers . . it even lets you see what game they are in, and you can in-game chat to them without being obtrusive.

if you have messenger then it tells you who is on line.  what are you talking about?

download yahoo messenger, then add your friends to your messenger list. whenever the lil smiley face next to their name is light yellow, they're on line. if its not yellow, they're not online or either they've set their messenger to invisible, but if its yellow they're there.    good luck

if you download the instant messaging software "Pidgin", you can set "buddy pounces" so that when a specific person signs on, it alerts you.

Add them to your messenger list,duh!

Did you add them on your Buddy List? If so, then there name will be on there, IF they're on. Double click on the name & it will bring up & instant message so you can talk!
