Im wondering which culinary school to attend. Yes, I'm a bit young (15) to be thinking of this, but I really love cooking. Any other suggestions for helping me on my way to being a great chef and having fun doing it?

  1. Depends on how serious you are. I would try to figure out exactly where I want to work and what I want to do after I graduate. If you have a restaraunt you'd like to work for then call them and ask the owner what he/she thinks. My nephew gadutated from The CIA in New York and interned @ The Inn at Little Washington in Va. ( one of the few 5 star rest. in America). He was very marketable because of his schooling and training at the Inn.

  2. Actually you are not too young to be thinking of this.  My daughter is 15 and wants to be a chef.  She is currently taking 2 class at her high school this year, culinary arts & pastry/baking. Next year she will be in another culinary class that will deal a lot with catering.  About 1-1/2 months ago we went on an open house tour of the Culinary Institute of America (C.I.A.) at Greystone in St. Helena, CA.  Wonderful place, got some great insite, etc.  She plans on taking the pastry classes there, as well as the 2 year culinary classes for her AOS, and then transferring to the C.I.A. at Hyde Park in NY for 2 more years to get her BS degree.   If you can go to one of their campuses and take a tour, you can get a feel for the school.  They generally have an open house once a month towards the end of the month in California.  I'm sure they have similar tours at the Hyde Park campus as well.

    Check out their website:  http://www.ciachef.edu

There are also tons of culinary scholarships and the C.I.A has their own scholarshps as well.

It is definately not too early to check into this and get started especially investigating the schools and different scholarships and grants!  Also, check with your high school counselor to see if there are any culinary classes in your school that you can take as well.

A good site to check out for scholarshps is http://ww.fastweb.com.

    Good luck!

  3. Start out at a 2 year school to get your basic classes done, and then try to get into the CIA (Culinary Institute of America) in Hyde Park NY, or le Cordon Bleu.

    Good luck!

  4. Le Cordon Blue!!
