when i run, i run for 30mins 3mins running and walk for 3mins on the treadmill and so on but if i switch to outside i got an arena(kinda like a track) where i can walk the curves and run the straights and ill be running in soft dirt making it harder to move my body which will probably make me lose weight faster and being outside might make me sweat a bit more too. so i wanted some other thoughts on this if switching to running outside will make me lose weight faster?

  1. Running outside will be far better - but, u will need equipments to measure your performance.

Trademills can hurt your knees some times. I am suffering from that. Be cautious.

Hard surface will not have shock-absorbers.

  2. outside because outside  have heat

  3. sometimes air quality can effect your breathing, which can end up effecting your run/speed/time/etc.  i usually end up making it farther when i'm on a treadmill rather than outside.  maybe you should time yourself on a track and see how long it takes you to make it around the straight parts and how long it takes you to make it along the bends and imitate that on the treadmill.  that way you can get the best of both worlds!  happy running!  :)

  4. umm run outside... and when there is bad weather...get on the treadmill or do crosstraining

butttt if u have a gym that has a (stepmill) or the revolving stairs iv read that if u do that 5-6x a week  on level 10-12 for 60mins a session

its the besttttttt fat shredder available. its harder then running and when u do get out there 2 run... u will have improved you endurance.

  5. outside because it exerts more energy to push yourself forward than to make the belt spin

  6. Loosing weight is NOT a fun activity. Better to work at it outside where the view can at least change a little for the better, rather than in a Gym where you meet the same guy on the same machine going past the same mirror around the SAME dumb track.

  7. definitly outside, it is also healthier to run outside instead of a building or dirty basement.  Outside u have to hold ur own body up 2.  On a treadmill u can put ur hands on it.  Also, if u want to quit on a treadmill u just step off, but if u want to stop on a run outside u have to walk back or walk for a while. I strongly suggest u run outside. hope this helps!

  8. if you do the treadmill route, make sure you're putting a little incline on that puppy.  an incline of .5 to 1 will mimic actual outdoor running better than running at 0 incline.  I personally love to trail run more than anything, but when weather or time keep me at a disadvantage, I go for the treadmill and try to put down about 3.5 - 5 miles.  I started with the eliptical trainer for a few weeks until I dropped a few pounds to ease the running stress on my joints, and since then I am happy to announce I have shed alomst 30 lbs !!!!  (in about 12 weeks)  I am now incorperating some cross training like cycling and swimming into my workout.  One good thing about treadmill training is that you can set your speed easily, so doing sprints is pretty easy.  after a ten min. warmup I'll dive into some sprint intervals, and increase the speed each time, then rest at my standard pace.  I like to do about ten mins of sprint intervals, then a rest pace, then kick it up for another ten mins at a push pace, then rest and back to normal pace for the remainder of the run, sometimes doing some hill work for the last 5 mins or so.

  9. Lots of different things factor into which is best, so the answer is different for everyone.

I get bored on a treadmill after about 10 mins, and I find myself counting down the seconds.  Outside, I can run for 2 hours without getting bored.  Outside works best for me.

Some people are the other way round.  So, try both and see which you prefer.  The one that burns the most calories is the one you can stick at for the longest.

I will just say, that outside your legs are working harder, because on a treadmill you are essentially bouncing, the machine is doing some of the work for you (I know it doesn't seem like it at the time), whereas the road/track is not helping you one little bit.

Try doing your endurance runs outside, but some intensive interval training indoors....I find I am more inclined to push my speed on the treadmill than outdoors cos when you are running outdoors you are in control and can slow down any time, on a machine, you have to run at this speed for this long, or else you fall off.

Also, depending on how fancy your treadmill is, it may not have a downhill option, and there is nothing better when running outdoors than finally getting to the top of the hill and then speeding down the other side.

So, to summarise, either one is good, just decide what works best for you.

  10. outside for sure.

  11. The calories burned should be roughly the same, but the soft dirt may favor outside. However, you are more likely to strain leg muscles in soft dirt. If you keep your heart rate in the training zone, either is good exercise.
