  1. Check out textkit.com; they have a ton of free materials for Greek and Latin autodidacts and a semi-helpful forum.

I'd also recommend getting the Jenney First-Year Latin Book; it doesn't make for fun reading, but it's really thorough and will give you the best grounding on grammar. Good luck.

  2. Memoria Press, has a complete course, on DVD as well.

These are from a traditional Latin Academy in Kentucky.

We have used it, and love it.

  3. Everything you need to learn Latin alone by yourself can be found on the Latinum Podcast. The site is free. So is the online textbook. As was mentioned before, textkit also offers useful resources.

This December, The Latinum Podcast  will hit its half millionth file download. The numbers speak for themselves.

  4. I've heard Prima Latina is supposed to be good. A few homeschoolers I know use it--and the parents don't know Latin themselves, so I would assume you could use it to learn Latin on your own.

  5. buy good reference books. the one which is like a dictionary.

  6. For Latin...don't go with Rosetta Stone.  Latin is very grammatically intense, and RS is extremely light on grammar.  For some languages, this works to some degree...please don't spend that kind of money for their Latin program, though.

The BJU Latin program is fairly good, it's what I use in my high school classes.  I'm not sure how old you are, but if you're 8th grade or under, Latin for Kids is excellent.  Those would be my top two picks.

There are other Latin programs out there, but honestly, IMO they are not worth the money.  They range from completely dry and boring to incredibly hard to work with.

Both of the above programs (Bob Jones/BJU and Latin for Kids) are strong on both grammar and vocab, give a lot of good history and culture info, and give the "why" behind Latin structures.  They are both very easy to work with and are not very expensive.

    Hope that helps!

  7. Its expensive but Rosetta Stone is a great program!

  8. Good luck with that. =]
