I want to learn guitar, but I am not sure where to start. My budget is tight. I plan to pick up a fender squire to learn on, but I am lost after that. I did play saxaphone for 9 years so I have musical sense, just not with a guitar :). I would like to learn using DVD's/Books, but I am not sure which ones are good...

  1. i only learned a guitar for only two days! i just read a book and i even did not get some help from others but i forgot the title, sorry! anyway, just first familiarize and master all guitar chords. then, practice the strumming. it depends on the song you will play. you can make any patterns of strumming to fit to the song. i just even recklessly strum the guitar but it fits to the song! try it!

    hope that helps!!

  2. try going to http://www.justinguitar.com or buy the book The Complete Billboard Illustrated Guitar Handbook. If you're just starting i suggest starting with chords and chord progression it could really help you in your rhythm and at the same time you'll be able to play the simple songs. When you get better try learning to solo and improvisation which is lead guitar playing so you could choose if you wanna focus on rhythm or lead which is both an important part of any band.

  3. You can defnitely find a fender squire for cheap, I would just buy a used one, or you can even get an Ibanez electric guitar package that will only run you about $199, it comes with an amp, book, strap, gig bag and tuner, which all separate will cost you more and Ibanez is a great brand,

If you want to stick with your squire then a good book would be Hal Leonards Guitar Method Books series, it comes with a CD which is what you need and it will definitely help you...I think you will do fine if you can already ready music, it will just take time for you to get the coordination and finger techniques down..

I use to work at a music shop for 3 1/2 years! good luck!
