I want to do Brazilian Jui jitsu, Kickboxing or Muay Thai but I am really thin and unsure if I will be able to do it. (I am naturally this way), I'm 110 pounds and 5'8. I heard you have to be really well built to do it, is that true?

Thanks in advance.

  1. Your body adapts to whatever you tell it you need it to do. Don't concern yourself with what's possible or impossible, just what you want to do, then prove you can do it. Never give up.

Wasn't it Henry Ford who said, "Whether you think you can or you can't, you're right"? Well, which is it?

  2. Well, Muay Thai is a sport you want to be bulky in.  The others Not really, kick boxing you have weight classes.  It's better to be smaller than it is to be larger, I'm very large and I take Tae Kwon Do, it's much harder to do it when your larger than when you are thinner.

  3. If you aren't super buff now, you sure as h**l will be after joining those.

Physical fitness is something that can be worked into you don't have to start out at the top.

  4. just go take a few classes there is nothing wrong with being thin it helps if you are strong but you can be strong and really thing at the same time. all this you will find out after a few classes.

  5. start takin classes.

i fight mma and i started by taking classes at a local mma gym names hostility

find one in your area and just start see if you like it

it aint easy but its worth it

  6. you just got to harness your chi

  7. No that is not true. Every one starts from the beginning! Go for it kick some major butt!

  8. Forget Bjj ( which isnt jiu-jitsu but modified Judo)

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bjj

These days its sports orientated and mainly concentrates on ground work, what you should investigate is Japanese jiu-jitsu as it's sole aim is in real self defence and street smart methods and includes Kobudo ( weapons art )

    Best wishes :)***

  9. Well, if you are naturally small then you can work on the technique. When I started in Brazilian Ju jitsu, I was taught a lesson in it's effectiveness by a person that was about 100lbs less than me. So the techniques work. Just try it out. I'm not into the Muay Thai yet, but I am thinking of learning some after a little while. If not that then good old boxing.  Good luck on your training and don't let your size keep you out of something where the fathers of the art were small(Judo, Brazilian Jujitsu).

  10. H3ll Yeah

    Go Jackie Chan style *****

  11. martial arts are not size specific.you need to decide  why you want to do the martial arts you suggest.if you want to do them for self defence i would suggest you try freestyle karate or ju jutsu or something simular.muay thai is a good stand up style but lacks street wise self defence as it is a ring sport,it,s a good style to cross train in though.BJJ is also another good style to cross train in but in a self defence/street situation the last place you want to be is on the ground, especially as your a female.ignore the hype about BJJ its not what its cracked up to be,its definately not the be all and end all of MA like a lot of ppl suggest.
