  1. I imagine it's the same abroad, but I'm not positive, but in the states many clubs have social sides as well as their competetive teams.  This is a great way to get involved and learn the sport.  If you are in the states, generally Division III clubs are more social clubs, whereas the Super League, and Division I clubs are more competetive, if the club in your area doesn't mention a social side.  Look around online for rugby in your area.  Most major cities have a club or two in the area, if not many colleges have sides that are open to the public, and you don't have to necessarily attend the school to participate.  If you can't find anyone, just ask around, you might be able to find enough guys who do know the rules so you can play a game of 7s or something like that.

if your not in St Louis MO the click on this link:

http://www.usarugby.org/membership/findC... ...... and select the sate you are in, then search down the list for a local club, The US Rugby Union website here  http://www.usarugby.org/ and will give you almost any info you need.

A few points tho', due to the nature of the game you will have to register with the home country union to play with a registered club, but that club should be able to do that for you, also your previous question was How do I learn to Fence? fencing and rugby are worlds apart.

If you want to play the best team sport on the planet tho' Rugby's the one...... you cannot learn from a website and will need to join a club to participate, that to has it's up side as I'm sure you will find that in any country the Rugby fraternity is a very sociable one.........enjoy

  3. Maybe you should say which country and city you live in!

    Join a rugby club.

  4. I can offer a few ideas based on our experience of building a team here in NC.

    a) Join a social rugby club locally. These guys won't be as intense and will be willing to work with you at your level.

    b) Buy 'Rugby for Dummies' from amazon.com... it is a great overview of the game and how it is played.

    c) Go to www.usarugby.org and download a copy of the lawbook.

    d) Buy a copy of Rugby World Cup video game (xbox or playstation)... may sound silly, but it will definately show you the flow of the game and how the offense and defense works together.

    e) Look for a local rugby club on Yahoo Groups... ask a lot of questions.

Feel free to check in at www.gastoniarfc.com if you want some help finding a local club.
