I want to learn how to play the drums...?

How should i get started? I'm probably going to take lessons, and i've had experience playing a musical instrument before (clarinet for four years, but i haven't touched an instrument for two years). I want to know what the best way to get started is, how long it will take me before i can play some challenging songs, what some good brands of drums are, how much i should spend on my first set, etc.... 1. How should i get started: when you buy your kit just mess around with some patterns and get a feel for your kit.

2. clarinet will not help AT ALL

3. it may take years to get to play some of the harder songs that you may here

4. What are some good brands of drums: acutal drum wise i would have to say pearl are great and for cymbals always zildjian they are pretty much the best cymbals out there   (note: most beginner sets come with cymbals so there is no need to worry about buying them)

5. How much should i spend on my first set: my first kit was approx. 530$ which isnt bad all the best kits are at least 2,000$ so that should give you a general range of where to head in your price range
