what do i have to do to learn how to work on pos systems do i need to go to school or just start reading books?

Anyway, you can certainly learn it on your own, but the job market is very competitive in IT, especially repair, so having a degree will be a big help with getting a job. Maybe there's a certification exam you can take, but the degree opens companies' doors faster.

Your best bet: Start learning it on your own. Then yuo can decide whether to take classes or not. If you do, you'll be a step ahead and you'll get better grades, because you'll be building on a foundation rather then learning it all for the first time.
