As strange as this may sound Texas. I live on the coast and have been surfing for 7 months now. the waves when they exist lol can be chest to head high on very special occasions in the deeper water. But the typical waves however are knee thigh and waist high very simple to ride. However they are usually choppy but still fun. Hope this helps.

it all depends where your from, if your from a coast line, their should be classes you can take.. good luck, its a blast :)

if you live in southern calfornia there are few in north san diego. one is at cardiff campgrounds and the other is at north carlsbad  campgrounds. also try your local surf shop. they should be able to refer you somewhere

Coming from a guy who has surfed for over 20 years and is still getting tubed at Blacks...

Your best bet is to try and find a beginner (via the web) who lives in your area that wants to go out (as I don't know where you are) but for beginning you want to stick to the places where the surfers aren't... as it really pisses your fellow surfer off to see you time after time waste a good wave after he or she has let you have it... learn at a small beach break on maybe 2 - 3 foot day... once you get better then shift over to the better spots...

go to a good beach, and don't take surfing lessons or rent a board they waste ur $$$
