  1. Ubuntu for sure, it's just the best looking out of the box and lots easier to set up than others.

  2. red hat linux..

    ubuntu..

  3. If you really want to LEARN linux then Ubuntu isn't for you.  If you want to point and click (like windows) then Ubuntu is fine.  If you're really wanting to get into the command line I'd suggest a redhat distro i.e. Fedora or CentOS.

  4. For a desktop linux, Ubuntu is fine.  It's a Debian-based distribution, which means it uses one particular type of package manager.  If your goal is to just get going and dive in to something that Just Works, this is what you want.

If you are wanting to learn for business purposes, I can't stress enough the need to become good at RedHat-based distributions, namely Fedora or CentOS.  RedHat is much more common in the business world (for better or worse).  If you're willing to put up with an uglier final product, and an uglier install, you get more widely available documentation and more relevant business knowledge by going this route.

  5. I also agree ubuntu is the best linux. If you are havn't done any linux stuff before, then its a  good choice for you. It can install either as a live cd or as a complete install without remove your existing os such as windows. More than that ubuntu is free and they will support a particular version for atleast 4 years
