I want to take more interest in other countries and be able to picture them on the world map. My knowledge is very basic and I think I should be more aware of world affairs.

I have a small globe at home, but can anyone recommend a good beginner's book or website that is a good introduction.

  3. You could mess around in flickr.  People put their photos on the map, so you can click on them, on the map, then get an idea of what some of the monuments and landmarks are.  It's all interactive and can be fun, that way.
