I have managed to kick the grond twice with my toes and have minor nerve damage in my heel which is making me nervous about kicking the ball too low to the ground(?). I tend to drop the ball using my right hand and try to point my toes whilest bringing my knee through. I just cant seem to get any consistency in length and in particular accuracy......Very frustrating.... Do i need to concentrate on striking the ball lower and further in front of my body......as i step into it??? Do i need to concentrate on my ankle extending faster than my knee is coming up?? I need to understand the mechanics of how to kick effectively i guess!!!Please Help!!!!

  1. always drop the ball from your waist point down and kick with the top of the foot where it joins with your shin for a drop punt. short stabs can only be donw ith the correct technique, i am not able to do them as i lean back when i kick, forcing the ball to go higher than it should normally. torpedos need to be held with the ball flat at a 30 degree angle to the left if ur a right footer and dropped so it hits the outside of the kicking foot flush, that way it should spin perfectly and long bombs are best achieved with a combo of following through fully and a correctly timed torpedo, but thats hard to do. stick to the drop punt until you become very confident with your kicking skills

  2. I learn't to kick years ago from a former Carlton player named David Rogers .  He would kick in from full back at the Heatley stand end at Carlton and land the ball between the wing and hff every time. His father and my dad had Business dealings and David often came to our home with his Dad.  I asked one time how he learned to kick so far , and he explained that his Dad, a former Coburg VFA player taught him the "Technique" by using / kicking  a " matchbox"..... I tried it and my kicking improved dramatically !!    Theory behind it is in your "concentration ".  in how you drop the matchbox, then connecting to actually make it spin on contact.     Try it using a  ciggy pkt stuffed with paper and Concentrate !!!    Always remember only perfect practice, MAKES PERFECT .  If you can perfect the small PKT, when you go back and  try it with the footy, its easy PROVIDED you continue to CONCENTRATE  on how you drop it !.   I wish you the best of luck
