I am 15 my parents got divorced in SLC, UT. When i was about 2. My mom got custody, we then moved away from my dad in about 2002 and my dad has to drive 200 miles to come see me every other weekend. I have always wanted to live with my dad but my mom says absolutley not because she thinks i won't be as religious and that he isn't a fit parent cause he has a tatoo and smokes, which has nothing to do with him being a fit parent. so what should i do to get to live with him?

  1. it depends on the state but you should be able to decide who you want to live with. most states it's 13, just find out what the law is there.

  2. Have you talked to your dad about this? He could go to court and try to get custody. BUT make your choices wisely the grass is not always greener on the other side. I honestly would not let my 15 yr old move away from me either but not really for religious reason, I would not allow it because I would miss them horribly they are my life.

  3. same thing with me, but actually i live neither now.

    i live with my grandparents.

you should tell your dad, and get a lawyer.

i took like 6 months for my trial to be finalizeddd.

i didnt wanna live with my dad either, i wanted to live with my grandparents and i'm really lucky that they respected my decision.

    hope i helped =]

  4. Your mom and dad need to sit down and talk.  I hate to say this - you need to be as much as an adult as possible.  Do not go in there with a "teenager" attitude.  This will crush you.  When your mom sees that you can act as an adult maybe she will allow more visitation.  Start there.
