  1. most galaxies are fainter than eye-visible.  even in a decent telescope, they look more like fuzzy blobs than the noble spiral-armed archetypes.

remember, we didnt know galaxies were outside the Milky Way until this last century and we had some decent sized telescopes.

  2. The andromeda galaxy is the only one that is clearly visible with the naked eye.  It is a small triangular shapped cloud of stars.  In July through November it is near Cassiopeia.

  3. You don't need a telescope to see a galaxy.  You can see the Milky Way galaxy with your naked eyes.   Summer months are the best time - just go out on a dark night (no Moon), in a place far away from major urban center or other light-pollution center and look south.  From your location the brightest part of the Milky Way (the Galaxy center) will be roughly 40 deg. above the horizon.

You can see the Andromeda galaxy (M31) with binoculars (or any small telescope).  However, if you want to see a spiral galaxy (especially its spiral arms), you will need at least a 6 inch scope and very dark skies.  The easiest one to appreciate its spiral form is M51.

  4. Look in the Andromeda constellation for the Andromeda galaxy M31 (in the northern hemisphere). Its easy to find and see with even a decent pair of binoculars.

  5. from your part of the world (almost on the equator), try the magellanic clouds. from the bush in australia they are naked-eye objects. in binoculars they are really cool. m31 is the best galaxsee from where i live, but it will be low in your sky and not much fun.

no matter what you look at, you need to get out of town to dark country skies.

  6. On a dark night we live far away from any city so when we look up you can see our milkyway it apears to stretch across the dark sky and has a milky look to it you must be far away from all city lights to see this. i have also seen on internet under meade. They sell deep space teloscopes where you can see other galaxies.also look up digital photos of galaxies on the internet and it shows peoples pictures of galaxys when they have mounted a camara to a large teloscope. This is the best way to see a galaxy since the deep space teloscopes are very expensive
