I have a necklace I want to sent to a friend in Japan. I live in Colorado. My mom said go to the post office to send it. What should I put the present in...like a small package? How many stamps do I need? Thanks.

  1. First I think you should wrap it as you would if you were to hand it in person since it's a gift. Then at the post office you can get a shipping box in the appropriate size.

Once your package is ready, go to the counter where the post office employees are and tell them that you're shipping the package to Japan. They will weigh the box and print an international stamp according to the weight. You will pay the price for it and fill out a form that includes your address and the one of the recipient in Japan. That's it!

  2. I suggest you wrap it before you go to the PO. Put it in a sturdy box that won't be easy to crush. You will have to fill out a customs form that says what's inside the box, and it's value.

You may also want to wrap the necklace in nice paper.

Cost will be 94 cents an ounce air mail.
