Ok, so i want to major in fashion design without a doubt . But here's what i also want in a college :

-warm weather ! all year round (near beaches if possible)

-a college that is not just arts-related, i want there to be sports and stuff too

-a college that isn't 85% girls like most fashion colleges

- i want it to also have business majors, because i also want to open a store

i need to make a list of about 6 to apply to for my financial advisor, but i can't find any ! i love new york in the summer, but i can't bear to stay up north here for another winter . please help =]

  1. Unfortunately you are going to need to make a compromise.  A school that is not arts related is not going to allow you to make the contacts (with other students and your professors) or give you as good an experience in the industry as a school in New York City would.  They don't call New York the Fashion Capitol of the World for no reason.  Look up Parsons School of Design or the Fashion Institute of Technology (NYC) in Wikipedia.  See who the alumni are, and then make your decision.  Unless you go to one of those two schools here in the United States, you are selling yourself short and will most likely not succeed in the fashion industry.

  2. You're making it really tough! There are some very strong fashion design programs at broad universities (rather than at art schools), but they're in locations you don't want. Still, I'll list a couple of them, because they are among the best, and maybe you'll like one of them:

    - Kent State University has one of the top fashion design programs in the US. But it's in Ohio, which isn't warm enough for you.

    - I've heard good things about the fashion design program at Cal State Long Beach, and at UCLA, but those are in California, which you say you don't want.

I don't actually know of any strong fashion design programs in the region you want, at a university. So what I'll do is send you to look at the best art schools (within unis, of course) that exist down there, and you can see if they offer a fashion design major. Thus I'll have you look at these very strong art programs: Virginia Commonwealth U, U Georgia, UNC Chapel Hill and U Tennessee Knoxville. Those are three broad unis with top well ranked art programs, and if they have fashion design, they'd likely have a good program in it.

It is too bad that you don't want NY and etc., because the Fashion Institute of Technology is not only one of the top 2 fashion design schools in the world, but it's also a SUNY. What that means is that, because you're a NY-state resident, it's a huge bargain, because it's a public university.
