  1. I have found a lot online! If you want to create a family tree I use http://www.tribalpages.com/ but there are lots of family tree building software out there. I just like this one because it's free to store your information but if you want to print it there is a charge. If you want to research you can find other people out there that might be related to you and have family trees already. I use Google as long as you know some names you can usually piece it together. If you need any help let me know! It a great hobby of mine.

  2. go to genes reunited.com

  3. Have you tried Genes reunited?

    www.genesreunited.co.uk

You can get quite a lot of info without actually joining. If you join you can set up your own family tree  on it

  4. Make a start on Genes reunited. It is easy to use and great fun.  Perhaps once you make a start you could introduce your mum to it and she could continue. Ancestry.com is another one that is very helpfull.  You will find that there is a small charge for doing some types of searches.

  5. Their are various sites where you can get information for free. You can search for your ancestors on these sites:

    http://genealogy.familyeducation.com/fam...

    http://www.familysearch.org/

    http://www.rootsweb.com/

    http://www.ancestry.com/

    http://www.cyndislist.com/

    http://www.genealogy.com/

    http://www.tribaljunction.com/

  6. I hate to disappoint you, but did you see when Mother's Day is? How much time/day can you spend? I have been working on mine for years...

Anyhew, here are some search tips:

You should start by asking all your living relatives about family history.  Then, armed with that information, you can go to your public library and check to see if it has a genealogy department.  Most do nowadays; also, don't forget to check at community colleges, universities, etc.  Our public library has both www.ancestry.com and www.heritagequest.com free for anyone to use (no library card required).

Another place to check out is any of the Mormon's Family History Centers.  They allow people to search for their family history (and, NO, they don't try to convert you).

A third option is one of the following websites:

    http://www.searchforancestors.com/...

    http://www.censusrecords.net/?o_xid=2739...

    http://www.usgenweb.com/

    http://www.census.gov/

    http://www.rootsweb.com/

    http://www.ukgenweb.com/

    http://www.archives.gov/

    http://www.familysearch.org/

    http://www.accessgenealogy.com/...

    http://www.cyndislist.com/

    http://www.geni.com/

Cyndi's has the most links to genealogy websites, whether ship's passenger lists, ancestors from Africa, ancestors from the Philippines, where ever and whatever.

Of course, you may be successful by googling: "john doe, born 1620, plimouth, massachusetts" as an example.

    Good luck and have fun!

Check out this article on five great free genealogy websites:

    http://www.associatedcontent.com/article...

Then there is the DNA test; if you decide you want to REALLY know where your ancestors came from opt for the DNA test. Besides all the mistakes that officials commonly make, from 10% to 20% of birth certificates list the father wrong; that is, mama was doing the hanky-panky and someone else was the REAL father. That won't show up on the internet or in books; it WILL show up in DNA.

I used www.familytreedna.com which works with the National Geographics Genotype Program.

    Have fun and good luck!

  7. email me- i might be able to help

  8. Just do what you have, with the promise to do more after Mother's Day ... and you should contact the Mormon genealogy people ... they may charge you some money, but these are THE BEST for finding out past history of ANYONE living in the US or Canada ... but to have your 'great greats' (your mother's greats' is a GREAT gift for her ... as it is.  Have a wonderful Mother's Day.

  9. Don't worry about a finished product. Produce what you can and give her a gift that can grow. maybe she will become interested and you can trace it all back together.

  10. familysearch.com

    ancestry.com
