I want to make a website and I need help.

Question

I typed in the website I wanted to see if it was taken. It's not taken but it was saying I needed to call some phone # to buy it or go through the website www.buydomains.com. Do I have to do it this way or could I go through a web developer and they make the site for me? It says it costs at least $688!

search for the domain name --> if it's taken, then you can possibly offer money. If they're saying it's $688, you have to consider how much you really want it.

Try a variation of the name.

If you decide on an available domain name, i recommend buying it through 1and1.com.

If you decide to later turn that domain name into a website, then sign up for the hosting plan (only about $5 a month).

Well, websites are usually payed like a bill, you pay every month or every year (depending on the provider). But do you want to buy the site and make the site your self? or do you want someone to do it for you? If you want to make the site yourself, but the site, and just make the site. If you want someone to do it for you, I don't know what to tell you. But if you want a free website, go to www.geocities.com (if that doesnt work, Yahoo Search Geocities)

find a website name that is not taken otherwise you will paying an arm and a leg for the name.

I have bought domains from Godaddy.com for as little as $8. Try buying it from there. Once you buy the domain, you could have a developer make the site for you or you could do it yourself. Hope this helps.

To run a website, you need webspace on a server and a domain name. These can be bought directly of the internet or you can contact directly a web developer who can buy them for you.

You can search for domains and webspace on google and see the offers online.
