I have a GZ250 I want to make it a little louder, i really dont want to pull out the baffle, but can i drill holes around the donut to modify the sound. Any ideas would help, basically i only have one chance to do it and i would like to do it right. I have also heard from both arguing sides, theres this biker i work with and he says pulling out the baffle will give me more horse power, some other people have said it will destroy my engine, two of which do not have and never have owned a bike. Anyways, back to the question can i just drill holes around the donut of the exhaust?

  1. You can pull out the baffle, it's legal, but you will have to get your bike checked on diagnostic equipment.  You might have to adjust your carburetor.

Another choice is different pipes.  There are some great ones, made just for that!

  2. what for?when i bought my VMax, it comes with a set of Cobra pipes. Its so loud you can hear me coming a mile away!no kidding. It sounds like a v8 put together.i am still looking for the original pipes which i cant get in my country.A new set cost 3000$.Dont waste your $ and time.

  3. I love people who answer what they dont KNOW.

1st, Anytime you modify the exhaust, you change back pressure which will change how LEAN or RICH the bike runs. Now if it goes Very LEAN, you can burn your engine up. If it goes very rich, it will carbin up.

If you end up making a small change, it might not effect the bike enough to hurt it, and then probably wont effect power or gas milage very much either. You might get lucky.

The correct way of doing it is to have your carbs rejetted (older carb versions and small bikes) or have the EFI program changed to adjust for the exhaust changes.

But like I said, you might get lucky. What I would do is either but a aftermarket exhaust kit that explains the carb changes needed or call a suzuki dealer and have them make the change so your covered if anything goes wrong and you wack your engine.

  4. Punching a couple of holes in the baffles will probably not cause any noticeable change in driveability.  If you switch to a low-restriction air cleaner at the same time it will go lean.  You would notice this right away as a loss of power.  This lean effect is fixed by re-jetting the MAIN jets (bigger).  Most bikes are a little bit lean from the factory for emissions standards and a re-jet can yield some power on a stock bike (not a lot, mind you).  If you had the notion to mess with the jets, make ALL of the changes (intake and exhaust) you want first, then re-jet rich until the power goes up and your plugs are not fuel-fouling.

  5. I agree with the person before. Do not drill out or knock out the baffle. Exhaust is tuned to your bikes needs. And while the sound may be appealing for a bit,it does become annoying to the rider. You can check with the parts person to see what they offer for your bike. And trust me have them put it on. That way if something goes wrong with it ,it is covered under parts installed warranty. And one final thing. I own a Harley Road King and a Triumph Bonneville..Sound is a safety issue ,lets people hear you coming. But don,t abuse it. Ride Safe!!

  6. Pull the baffels out it wont hurt your motor. If you don't like the sound you can always put it back if you drill you can't put it back.

  7. no dont do that.. another type of muufer would be better or taking a big pipe and driving into the muffer to open it up wouldbe better than drilling any holes and removing the baffles will not blow up your motor and really more horse power you not going to get much of a notice with either one juts will be louder

  8. you make your exhaust less restrictive and you will cause a lean condition.your fuel mix will have to be ritchened up.
