I'd like straight instructions on how to make one. I don't really mind if it's incredibly simple. I just want to start somewhere. I have the whole summer so I have a lot of time practicing making my dress. And please, if you offer patterns, show me exactly what pattern you are talking about in links. What I mean is something like this where they are easy to understand and instructions step by step.

Thank you so much in advance. I appreciate any help and answer I get.

  2. What a great idea and congratulations on wanting to do this yourself! I have to agree with "drip" in that the link he has provided to the easy-to-sew pattern is excellent for someone who does not have a lot of experience in sewing.

If you use one of the easy-to-sew patterns, you can embellish the garment to make it truly yours. You could add trim to the neckline and/or the hem. Make it longer or mid-length. Add a corsage in the same fabric or make a wristlet in the same fabric. Pattern 2957 would be a good one. Do not add the small sleeves to the top and make the dress longer. Add a unique, feminine trim to the bodice or enhance the belted area around the waist. Use a beautiful, flowing fabric that you absolutely love. If you make the skirt longer, be sure to purchase extra fabric. The best way to figure it out is take the pattern to the fabric store, tell the store clerk you want to lengthen the skirt, and ask for help in figuring out how much more fabric you will need. I can't give you exact measurements as it will depend on the width of your fabric, but a good rule of thumb is a yard for extra length below the knee (for 60" wide fabric). The length will also depend on how wide the skirt pattern pieces are and how the nap of the fabric runs. If you are purchasing fabric with a one-way nap, you will need to purchase even more in order for the pieces to all run the same direction.

Nap refers to the direction the fabric feels when you fun your hand on it. Nap also refers to fabrics such as corduroy, velvet, velveteen and some satins.

Good luck and if I can be of more help, feel free to e-mail me.

  3. @ mamzelle bulle : I can translate what you want to tell her...

Je peux lui traduire si tu veux...

    :o)

  4. If you haven't sewn before or put in a zipper this is going to be very difficult for you.  A lot of the fabric prom dresses are made of are difficult to sew.

Try a Simplicity pattern. The link below is for a easy to sew pattern. If you make it long you could use it for prom

The site also has a sewing 101 link

  5. Hi !

Sorry I can't help you, cause I'm not fluent in english and in sewing (is that the word for couture ?), but I give you a star, maybe someone of my contacts can help you ;)

    mwaaaah

@Nico c'est pas que je veux pas, mais la couture c'est pas mon fort malheureusement, je me débrouille mieux en anglais qu'en couture lol mais merci ^^

  6. you can custom-made the dress,there is a site,you can check that.http://www.kanaccasbridal.com/shopdispla...

also you can tell them your require, thay can make that according to your require.

    Good luck!

  7. Can you sew?  If not, you are going to need a lot more help than we can give here.  You'll need to learn to sew, to use a sewing machine, to read a pattern, to handle scissors, pins and all the kit, as well as all the terms that go with it.  There's no reason why you shouldn't do it, but taking some lessons might be a better idea than just winging it with a pattern or instructions found on the internet.

Meanwhile, here are some simple prom dress patterns to think about:

    http://www.kwiksew.com/Catalog/cat_detai...

    http://www.butterick.com/item/B4389.htm?...

    http://www.voguepatterns.com/item/V8494....

    http://www.simplicity.com/assets/3503/35...

Take a look at the main pattern company web sites and see what you like, then get back and someone will give guidance as to whether this is s sensible first project or not.
